There are many narratives to be revealed -
the story of the artist;
the narrative of the work itself: its genesis and reason for being;
the social history and context of the art work;
the revelation of the process and technique;
the life story the viewer brings to the art.
How do we articulate these narratives, these layers?
How much does the viewer need to know,
or the artist reveal,
in order for the work of art to speak to the heart?
