VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTERS;
ORDINARY PEOPLE
DOING AN EXTRA-ORDINARY JOB
Our community is richly served by the Ngongotaha Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Grocers and teachers,
panel beaters and truck drivers, security guards and tour guides,
electricians and caregivers, teachers and students,
mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters,
all set aside their lives to protect our lives and property.
This year, the Ngongotaha Volunteer Fire Brigade
celebrates its 75th Jubilee.
75 years of
tending to fires and motor vehicle accidents;
helping with medical incidents and broken power lines;
attending community events;
educating the community about fire safety; and
providing protection to its community.
To celebrate this achievement,
and to aid with fund-raising for the Ngongotaha Volunteer Fire Brigade,
I have created a series of dolls
that give us a 'behind the scenes look' at
the extra-ordinary work done by the ordinary people in our community.
Recruits in their overalls.
Fire Fighters in their dark blue uniform,
their Wildfire or Rescue Uniform, also used by Operational Support,
and their Structural Fire Fighting Uniform.
Specialist Fire Fighters in their
Rural Fire Fighting Uniform, either yellow or orange;
and the bright orange Chemical Splash Suit.
Each doll in a Fire Fighting uniform is paired with its 'ordinary' counterpart.
I will donate $50 from the sale of each doll to the
Ngongotaha Volunteer Fire Brigade.

There are 2 other dolls in this series.
St Florian is the patron saint of fire fighters.
He was a soldier in the Roman army of Diocletian
and formed an elite squad of fire fighters.
The other doll is Mychal Judge OFM
a Franciscan priest who was chaplain to the NY Fire Dept.
He was the first official casualty of the terror attack on the World Trade Centre on the 11th September, 2001.
Every year, New Zealand fire fighters participate in the memorial Stair Climb
to remember the 343 fire fighters who lost their lives that day.
