I find inspiration in that which
provokes,
needles,
stirs the pot,
touches a sore spot,
challenges the status quo ...

I like to pull off the pretty wrapping paper,
the tissue which obscures clear vision,
and say ...
let's talk about this;
let's think about this;
let's consider another point of view.

Fighting injustice ...

It is often social injustice which inspires me to create.

Stitch and needle become my voice ...
against domestic violence,
against violation of the rights of children,
against institutional discrimination of women,
against homelessness ...
the list of injustices is endless.

Through stitch and fibre,
I hope to honour the inherent dignity of every human being.

Poetry has the capacity to move me...
to silence
to prayer
to awe
to meditation
to create.

Sometimes just one line causes me to gasp ... and pause,
as in Rabindranth Tagore's
"Accept me.
Accept me for this while."

Sometimes one image created is enough for me to cry "Yes!"

Lately, performance poetry has seeped into my soul.

Challenge yourself...

I am inspired by words and images and activities that challenge:
my idea of why we are creative;
my vision of what is real and what is not;
my notion of what is acceptable and what is not;
my concept of what is possible and what is not.

I like it when artists push boundaries and expectations.
I smile when they explore philosophical theories, with a new twist.
I am encouraged when varied art forms become unlikely room-mates.

I love it when artists have fun :)

I find inspiration in a variety of places.
There is an infinite supply in the world around us,
and in the living of our daily lives.
There is infinite possibility ...
to surprise;
to delight;
to connect;
to challenge.

And the internet is a constant source of
encouragement
empowerment
wonderment
possibilty.

My mind is rebounding with ideas after listening to this talk given by Michael Strand.
