A CAUTIONARY TALE
I see 'Ring-a-ring o' roses' as a cautionary tale for today.
Just as the symptoms of flushed cheeks and sneezing
tolled for sufferers the death bell,
so too,
does the over-use of antibiotics;
genetic modification;
pollution of air, soil and water;
use of hybrid seeds;
deforestation;
use of fossil fuels;
toxic waste;
consumerism ...
toll the death bell for us and our planet.
We must each take personal responsibility
to become fully informed
on environmental and ecological issues;
make wise decisions based on this information;
and commit to
Reduce
Re-use and
Recycle.

REPLAY

"We hear the message over and over.
We become immune to the urgency of environmental issues,
and overwhelmed by the multiplicity of demands made of us."
Is the ecological message like a cracked record?
How can we connect head and heart?
How do we image or reflect our love,
our compassion and our care
for ourselves?
our resources?
our planet?

AL (CATRAZ)

"We are imprisoned by our habits and ingrained inclinations.
We fail to accept responsibility for our actions or inaction."
How can we challenge...
and change...
the habits and ideology that imprison us?
How can we recognise the excuses and rationalisations
for what they really are
and take responsibility for our environment?
"The future depends entirely on what each of us does every day."

BLACK WIDOW

"To whom have we given the power?"
Are we prostituting ourselves,
our resources,
our home,
when we fail to heed environmental warnings?
Are we selling ourselves, our resources, our home to the highest bidder?
Have we castrated ourselves: made (or think) ourselves impotent or powerless to bring about change?
The Black Widow female spider eats the male after he has served her.
Are we guilty of likewise destroying the regenerative ability of Mother Earth?

OVA

I know the right words.
I know the right actions.
Do they make a difference?
What in my life reflects my desire to make life-giving changes?
How do I birth a new ecology?
The korowai (cloak) is a sign of honour given to someone who has earned the respect of the community.
I believe anyone who works for the preservation of our humanity and our planet (no matter how small the action) deserves to wear this garment.
