SELFIES

Self portraits have been with us for a very long time.
From images traced in red ochre on rock cave walls to selfies by our most beloved artists. Some easily identify the individual; others can be rather obscure. I am rather camera shy but wanted to express some aspects of my self through textiles and doll making. I have utilised a wide variety of materials - all donated or recycled - from leather purses to abandoned textile pieces; from felt scraps to vintage handkerchiefs. Sometimes I have made use of commercial patterns. Other times, I worked intuitively. Each Selfie has a brooch pin sewn on the back. They vary in size from 5cm high to 20cm high. The Selfies sell for $NZ30. $NZ5 from every Selfie sold will be donated to a local Women's Refuge. Read more about the Selfies here. |
