OLD WOMAN IN A SHOE
I was gifted a small box of hand-made terracotta clay boots.
I wanted to honour the gift and the giver.
The nursery rhyme "Old Woman in a Shoe" came to mind.
"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do;
She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed."
I reflected on this rhyme,
putting myself in the place of the 'old woman' and 'the children'.
This was a rich and rewarding experience.
The dolls all hold three children, who wear a variety of wings.
The old woman also holds a useful tool, such as scissors or tape measure.
The doll and boot stand about 10cm high.
Each doll is $NZ25 plus postage and packaging.
