BEWARE WHEN YOU HONOR AN ARTIST

MAKING PEG DOLL ANGELS at Children's Day, 2012
"Beware when you honor an artist" is the title of a poem by Ursula le Guin.
I do not consider myself as an artist but I have found a voice.
I do not always have the courage to speak.
That is when my encouragers, my guides, my soul friends
come and "fill my house with lions".
This website reflects my voice.
My prayer is that you are filled with every grace and blessing
when you visit this site.
May we both respond to the insistent, persistent call to become whole.
BEWARE WHEN YOU HONOR AN ARTIST
Ursula le Guin
Beware when you honor an artist
You are praising danger.
You are holding out your hand
to the dead and the unborn.
You are counting on what cannot be counted.
The poet's measures serve anarchic joy.
The storyteller tells one story: freedom.
Above all beware of honoring women artists.
For the housewife will fill the house with lions
and in with the grandmother
come bears, wild horses, great horned owls, coyotes.
I do not consider myself as an artist but I have found a voice.
I do not always have the courage to speak.
That is when my encouragers, my guides, my soul friends
come and "fill my house with lions".
