SEEING THE WORLD THROUGH DIFFERENT EYES

It is a pleasure and a gift to be given an opportunity to see the world through another's eyes. It is as if I can catch a glimpse of their essence; their reason-for-being; their soul. Such a privilege.
When I make a doll from the pattern or innovation of another doll-maker, I am graced with such an opportunity. At a level, which I cannot describe nor articulate, I feel a connection, a cross-pollination, a soul-sharing.
When I create using cast-off or recycled materials, once again I am graced with the opportunity to see the world through another's eyes. Each article, each piece of fabric, each textile or fibre, comes to me imbued with its history: of manufacture; of resources; of ownership and stewardship; of creation and transformation. When I reuse these materials, I wish to honour the integrity of the materials, and at the same time, give them a new and authentic voice.

The eyes through which I have seen ...

I am privileged to live with a talented felt-maker, Julie Voss. She made this piece of felt from Gotlein and NZ Merino, but was dissatisfied with the result. It was the inspiration for the dolls.
Doll-makers Lynne Sward, elinor peace bailey, Pamela Hastings and Artgirlz were the muse for some of the dolls. Their viewpoint is refreshing and illuminating. Thank you for sharing your giftedness.
