RECLAIM
I need to recall and remember the good.
I need to recognise, name and accept the bad.
I need to reclaim my own self.
The prone doll is constructed from a copy of my marriage certificate,
covered with thin vilene,
which has been creased and crumpled.
This is the shed skin of DIVORCE.
There is gold stitching radiating from the centre of the 'skin'.
Gold thread binds or wraps the head,
reminiscent of Lazarus or Jesus ...
hints of rebirth, resurrection, a second chance at life.
The gold thread is entwined with the mutilated vilene.
There is good/gold in that which has been discarded.
There is good/gold in my new life as a single person.
The ball of 'shed skin' has been plied with gold thread.
From a life unraveled, a new creation will arise, full of possibility.

The upright doll was constructed from a piece of calico, printed with a copy of my birth certificate.
The doll is stuffed very firmly, to indicate my firm resolve to grow in love through this experience.
She has a gold cape.
It does not conceal me but rather reveals my true self.
"I am a daughter of God.
I am a child of the king.
I am a sister of Christ"
Gold beads run from my mother's name.
They indicate the matriarchal line.
There is strength in my womanhood, my female-ness.
This doll carries a small bag.
In this is my wedding ring and a cross.
I will always carry this bag.
This is my reality:
I was married for thirty two years, eleven months and ten days.
I believe in a loving, irrepressible God.
I live in a world rich with 'God-ness'.
These have shaped who I am now
