TROUPE DE VERDE

There is something
vital
magical
awe-inspiring
entertaining
heart stopping
motivating
challenging
heroic
limitless
freeing
about artistes on a trapeze.

They make the difficult look easy;
the complex appear simple;
the impossible seem possible.
The laws of physics do not seem to appear.
The limits of human physiology do not seem to apply.
The determination of the human spirit seems unstoppable.
Fear appears vanquished.
Human potential seems infinite.

I am entertained.
I am encouraged.
I am in awe.

Troupe de verde grew out of a visit to 'Saltimbanco' by Cirque de Soleil;
a scrap of green fluffy fabric; and
a desire to express fun and vitality.

"In the midst of movement and chaos,
keep stillness inside of you."

Deepak Chopra

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VICTORIA

"I move,
therefore I am."

Haruki Murakami

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VANESSA

"It takes a lot of courage to release
the familiar and seemingly secure,
to embrace the new.
But there is no real security
in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security
in the adventurous and exciting,
for in movement there is life,
and in change there is power."

Alan Cohen

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VANYA

"The body says what words cannot."
Martha Graham

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VIXEN

"The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure.”
Mikhael Baryshnikov

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VARDEN

Marek, owner of 'Trapeze pro', explains the rules of flying.
"Smile and listen.
These are the only two rules you need to follow
to excel at the trapeze."

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VILLE

Whether you are changing careers,
or simply changing jobs,
both situations can be likened to being a flying trapeze artist.
How so?
They involve risk,
reflection,
trust,
and most certainly, thrill.

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VALENTINO

"You don't necessarily have to write to be a poet.
Some people work in gas stations and they're poets.
I don't call myself a poet because I don't like the word.
I'm a trapeze artist."

Bob Dylan

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VIANNEY

Advice from a veteran trapeze performer:
Throw your heart over the bars
and your body will follow.

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VIVIAN

"No matter what they tell you,
you don't have to stay within the lines."

Natalie Portman in "Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VANCE

Trapeze
by Deborah Digges

See how the first dark takes the city in its arms
and carries it into what yesterday we called the future.

O, the dying are such acrobats.
Here you must take a boat from one day to the next,

or clutch the girders of the bridge, hand over hand.
But they are sailing like a pendulum between eternity and evening,

diving, recovering, balancing the air.
Who can tell at this hour seabirds from starlings,

wind from revolving doors or currents off the river.
Some are as children on swings pumping higher and higher.

Don't call them back, don't call them in for supper.
See, they leave scuff marks like jet trails on the sky.

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VINCENT

"The human spirit is more powerful than any drug,
and that is what needs to be nourished
with work, play, friendship, family.
These are the things that matter."

Robin Williams in "Awakenings" 1990

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VALERIE

"It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing in my waist
And the joy in my feet
I'm a woman.
Phenomenally."

Maya Angelou in 'Phenomenal Women: Four Poems Celebrating Women'

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VERONICA

"I feel as if my skin is the only thing keeping me from going everywhere at once."
Dougray Scott in 'Ever After', 1998

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VICTOR

"We believe that mere movement is life,
and that the more velocity it has,
the more it expresses vitality."

Rabindranath Tagore

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VITO

THE TRAPEZE ARTIST
by Graham Russell

give a diamond give a pearl
give a bow and give a little twirl
make them laugh
make them cry

hear them roar with awe
as you fall and tumble
on the ground

see their eyes shine with delight
as you shock them with
your act

an act of fun an act of fear
watch the acrobats
jump and fall
doing tricks for all.

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VIRGIL

"You must not let anyone define your limits
because of where you come from.
Your only limit is your soul."

Brad Garrett in 'Ratatouille'2007

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VERNE

The Acrobats
By Shel Silverstein

 I'll swing
By my ankles,
She'll cling
To your knees
As you hang
By your nose
From a high-up
Trapeze.
But just
one thing, please,
As we float through the breeze--
DON'T  SNEEZE!!!!!

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VERITY

VITALITY
"There is a vitality,
a life force,
an energy,
a quickening,
that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in a ll time,
this expression is unique."
Martha Graham

TROUPE DE VERDE introduces VESTA

THE TRAPEZE ARTIST
by Graeme King

Flying, vaulting, somersaulting, graceful in the air,
Twists and flips and swings and grips the handle waiting there,
High trapeze, no safety net, onlookers watch him gravely,
As daily he represses fear and plies his labour bravely.

Duty brings him to the ring, a daily public feat,
He would instead be home in bed, not out there in the heat,
Someone must resist the odds, must make them understand,
The ring is full of risk and fear and he must take command.

Ropes are frayed, and steel decayed, he flies atop the tent,
Taking chances slim finances would appease if spent,
Other circus needs are great, trapeze is low priority,
Voices calling out for help are sadly in minority.

And so he flies, and death-defies, rebuffing malediction,
Under-tooled and ridiculed, a public contradiction,
The circus needs trapeze, for some would other acts adore,
Without the artist in the air who would uphold the law?
