Marama Ngatai married Aidan Brennan in 1888.
They made a home in Rawene with their 5 children:

Marama was a gifted artist.
She worked with harakeke (flax),
growing, harvesting and preparing the harakeke
before weaving it into kete (baskets), hinaki (eel pots),
takapau (floor mat) and piupiu.
Her work was renown throughout the north of Aotearoa.
