Doll 46: Henri Moreau

Henri Moreau was the youger twin
born to Prudence and Claude Moreau in 1893.
Aged 6, his family moved in with the Fitzgerald's,
after their father abandoned them.
Unlike his twin, Pierre,
Henri was loud, gregarious and adventurous.

He worked his passage to South America,
and then trekked to Sao Paulo in Brazil.
There he worked with Italian, Japanese and Spanish immigrants
on the extensive coffee plantations.
Immigration was encouraged after slavery was abolished in Brazil in 1888.
Coffee plantations covered more than 27,000 square kilometres of Brazil.
Coffee seeds were smuggled into Brazil by Francsico de Melo in 1727.

Henri thrived in the plantations.
He was promoted to supervisor.
He met and married Isabella Sousa,
the daughter of a coffee bean exporter.
They married in 1905
and had 3 children:
Gabriel b. 1907
Pedro b. 1909
Felipe b. 1911.

Much like his twin, Pierre,
this figure reflects the teardrop shape.
The shoulders are rounded.
However, the torso is straighter,
as are the legs.
Long narrow arms were stitched
to the base of the neck.

Henri worked on a coffee plantation.
Today, many third world countries are not treated justly
when it comes to a fair price for commodities.
Am I willing to adjust my buying to support Fair Trade?
