Fonzie ...
a tribute to a friend for over 30 years and the character from Happy Days. Happy birthday, Fonzie. A 'memento mori',
a memory keeper. Created from a sepia toned photo. A tangible embodiment of a heartfelt love. E iti noa ana nā te aroha A small thing given with love A memory keeper for Jenny.
A tangible reminder of a deep and abiding friendship. Created using the clothes of a loved friend. Kia kaha, Jenny. A memory keeper.
A special doll to remember a very special woman, daughter, colleague, friend. An honour and a privilege to create. Arohanui. Miryam is a commission made for a friend's loved sister and sister-in-law.
She is a seamstress, loves to dance, and play the bongos. She is a much loved mother. Haere ra, Miryam. Chavonne was made for a friend's sister.
This woman loved running and sunflowers; cats and dressing well. Her jacket, skirt and shirt are sewn from silks given to me by artist, Miriam Ruberl. Chavonne wears a lacy camisole. Her working life was spent as a bookkeeper, so filing cards form the base of this figurative sculpture. Aaleyah is a commission for a very dear friend.
She carries a prayer in her pocket ... Christ Has No Body Christ has no body but yours, No hands, no feet on earth but yours, Yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world, Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good, Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, Yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now but yours, No hands, no feet on earth but yours, Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world. Christ has no body now on earth but yours. Teresa of Avila (1515–1582) Ellen was made for a very dear friend.
I began her over a year ago, during my artist's residency at The Arts Village. I cut her out, stitched and turned her ... and then ... nothing. She languished in a bag - her potential and her beauty unrealised. But ... a little prompting from her new companion and she has blossomed into what she was called to be. And ... she has raised another $NZ10 for a Cancer Support Trust. A question to ponder ... am I consciously living in the present, attentively participating in this one precious life? |
