I used a pattern by Raewyn Parker of Red Hen Designs.
I particularly love the batik fabric he is created from.

Blondie is another Dammit Doll.
Made from a pattern in Pamela Hasting's self-published book "Dollmaking as a Transformative Experience" I was commissioned to make a doll
from all the elements used to create a now unwanted wedding dress. Silk, organza, ribbon, braid, lace, beads. She is a fairy watching over her god-child. 65
to celebrate 65 years of life! Why black? This fabric is a favourite of mine: black velvet embossed with roses. Holding a light to show the way to live mindfully in the present moment. 64
A birthday celebrated during a 49 day national lockdown to eliminate Covid 19 from Aotearoa New Zealand. I lived in a 'bubble'. Groceries were delivered to me. No gatherings. I had watched with wry amusement at the panic buying of toilet paper. So I created a figure with her skirt shaped over a roll of toilet paper. Her bodice knitted with inflexible wire. Her smile intact. All inside a bell jar, a 'bubble'. Around the base is a quote from the Cheshire Cat, "You may have noticed, I'm not all there myself." Moon Baby is the doll I made this year to celebrate my birthday.
I broke all the rules I had set myself! Aaah! The freedom of growing older!! Moon Baby is made from a 1981 Simplicity pattern, a month after my birthday. (Usually I create the doll on my birthday, without a commercial pattern). She was made in response to a picture I saw on facebook The Silence Keepers
are created from discarded and stained silk baby dresses, an old disused embroidered tablecloth, and scraps of red fabric and fibre. They are still revealing their story to me. Fonzie ...
a tribute to a friend for over 30 years and the character from Happy Days. Happy birthday, Fonzie. A smile (or many) for this doll
crafted from a bandana covered with smiles:-) Her skirt is circular, trimmed with yellow bias binding. I love the string of yellow beads around her neck! |
