200 prayer flags

20/9/2012

What a milestone ... 200 prayer flags. I am grateful that I took the opportunity to undertake this challenge ... a prayer flag a day for a year. My life is richer because of it. I heartily agree with these words from Mother Teresa:

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realise it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life ia a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

We are gifted one life ... may yours be a blessing.

Non-violence

19/9/2012

God of compassion,You let your rain fall on the just and the unjust.
Expand and deepen our hearts
so that we may love as You love,
even those among us
who have caused the greatest pain
by taking life.
For there is in our land
a great cry for vengeance
as we fill up death row and kill the killers
in the name of justice,
in the name of peace.
Jesus, our brother,
You suffered execution at the hands of the state
but you did not let hatred overcome you.
Help us to reach out to the victims of violence
so that our enduring love may help them heal.
Holy Spirit of God,
You strengthen us in the struggle for justice.
Help us to work tirelessly
for the abolition of state-sanctioned death
and to renew our society in its very heart
so that violence will be no more.
Amen

Helen Prejean CSJ

Let us appreciate and preserve the inherent dignity of each human person.

Disappointment

How does one deal with disappointment?
Today I
1. Sat with disappointment
2. Listened to it
3. Cried
4. Explored and searched its antecedents: how did it come to be?
5. Took it for a vigorous walk
6. Placed it on the altar of my heart where heaven and earth meet
7. Visualised disappointment as an amber light:
                an opportunity to slow down
                a time to pause
a place to gain direction or change
8. Thanked it for its wisdom
9. Introduced it to      forgiveness
                                    opportunity
                                    promise
                                    renewal
10. Set it free

When we encounter disappointment today, may we welcome it as a moment  oface.

Mystery

"At the heart of every story is Mystery.
The reasons we attribute to events
may be far different from their cause.
Often our first interpretation of events
is quite different from our last reading of them.
Mystery is a process,
and so is our understanding of it."

Rachel Naomi Remen in 'Kitchen Table Wisdom'

Gaze

When you gaze at an object,
you bring blessing to it.
For through contemplation,
you know that it is absolutely nothing without
the divinity that permeates it.
By means of this awareness,
you draw greater vitality to that object
from the divine source of life.
Dov Baer of Mezritch

May you blessed as you pause and gaze today.

Heart's ache

"When I feel marginalised as a woman
by the language of the 'Church',
I remember that Jesus Christ is
where hearts ache,
hunger reigns,
and injustice rules.
Wherever women are struggling
against an unjust system,
therefore,
Jesus Christ is."
Claire Bungasser

We are truly blessed when we recognise Jesus in hearts that ache.
May we pass that blessing on.

Nature's gift

Albert Einstein said,

"Joy in looking

is nature's
most beautiful gift."

May joy overwhelm us as we open the book of creation.

Scatter

We are all sowers.
But what do we sow? What do we scatter?
Do they bear fruit?
Does it fall on fertile ground?
I hope that I scatter:
blessings
ideas
story
hope
silence
questions
compassion
footprints

Let us open our hearts and sow blessings today.

Prune

Pruning is a necessary part of life.
It is needed:
to promote new growth;
to remove that which is dead;
to improve overall health;
to allow access to the centre.

We need pruning as well: spiritually. emotionally, physically.
I am trying to prune:
fear
despair
wistfulness
verbosity
self-importance
resentfulness
envy
over-indulgence
regret
carelessness.

May we blossom and bear rich fruit as we judiciously prune our lives.

Superimpose

What are 10 attitudes or attributes you would like to superimpose on your day?
Those actions or attitudes which add to who you are.
A bit like layering or stitching or embellishing ... they add to the whole.
Today I would like to superimpose these attributes or attitudes:
gratitude
silence
pause
attentiveness
a smile
delight
a listening ear
patience
compassion
commitment

May we be richly blessed as we choose those attitudes and attributes which define us.
