Furca

For Pythagoreans, the fork symbol represented 'life's path':
the choice between good (the right stem) and evil (the left stem).
Every day,
aware or unaware,
consciously or unconsciously,
willingly or unwillingly,
we happen upon 'a fork in the road'
where we must make a choice or become stalled (although that in itself is a choice!)
Our attitude,
our response to these choices is what can make the difference in our lives.
What seems to us as bitter trials
ar often blessings in disguise.

May your day be filled with unexpected delight
as you actively participate in the choices you encounter.

Linger

20/7/2012

Found in "The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady",

'The year lies dying in this evening light;
The poet musing in the autumnal woods;
        Hears melancholy sighs
        Among the withered leaves.

Not so - but like a spirit glorified
The angel of the year departs, lays down
        His robes, once green in spring
        Or bright with summer's blue;

And having done his mission on the earth,
Filling ten thousand vales with rosy corn,
        Orchards with rosy fruit,
        And scattering flowers around, -

He lingers for a moment in the west,
With the declining sun sheds over all
        A pleasant, farewell  smile
        And so returns to God.'
translated from the German

It is when we 'linger' that we notice.
It is when we 'linger' that we appreciate.
It is when we 'linger' that we give
thanks.

Let us linger today and appreciate all that is around us.

Quintessence

19/7/2012

Quintessence is the most essential part of any substance.
With the renewed excitement about the Higgs boson (the God particle),
I am finding myself pondering on what is the quintessence of
my life;
my world;
my environment;
my belief system;
my relationships;
my being.
A desire to live a life that is compassionate and grateful influence my daily decisions.
The quintessence of my existence, I think, is unconditional LOVE.

May we each pause and consider the quintessence of our being,
and may that consideration energise us.

Choose

How do we choose our next move? our response?
Is it a knee-jerk reaction?
Is it considered? deliberate?
Is it random? uncaring?
Do we choose a soul friend, a companion, to accompany us?
Do we actively seek a diverse range of solutions, responses, to inform our choice?
Do we seek quiet, through meditation or prayer or walking,
in order to hear the voice of Sophia or intuition?

May our choices today be heavy-laden with grace and blesing.

Idea

Alfred Hitchcock said, "Ideas come from everywhere."
I agree.
A walk.
A book.
A conversation.
A scent.
A juxtaposition of unlikely events.
A thought.
A sunrise.

And ideas are fun ...
playing with them ...
conversing with them ...
letting them fly and run and cartwheel.

Ideas are great companions,
entertaining conversationalists,
intimate soul mates.

Let us revel in the richness and diversity of ideas today.

Crossing

16/7/2012

Robert Louis Stevenson said,
"It is the first part of intelligence to recognise our precarious estate in life,
and the first part of courage not to be at all abashed before the fact."

We are taught that pedestrian crossings are safe places to cross busy roads.
But they are only as safe as we make them.
We must bring all our learnings and intelligence and awareness and
common sense and courage
to make safe passage on these crossings,
and in all the transitions we make throughout our life.

May you be filled with courage as you make transitions today.

Honour

15/7/2012

Joyce Rupp writes in "Fragments of Your Ancient Name"

"Am I too independent to bow to you,
To admit your sovereignty
Over my heart, my entire life?
Am I too proud to acknowledge
Your ultimate powerfulness?
Am I too ignorant to recognise
Your authority in the cosmos?
Am I too blind to see your grandeur
Etched in the landscape of creation?
If so, shake loose my arrogance."

Let us give honour today to Infinite Majesty.

Bouquet

13/7/2012

To whom should I offer a bouquet today?

The post lady who delivers my mail, no matter how inclement the weather?
The dog, who accompanies me whenever I need a walk?
The producer and performers on the audio book that keeps me company?
The son who, unasked, scoops up all the fallen camellia flowers?
The designer and fabricators of the fire box that keeps me warm?

Let us offer a bouquet of gratitude to all those who improve the quality of our lives.

Chance

Chance ...
what an interesting word.
Opportunity ... likelihood ...probability ... luck ... fortune ... destiny ...possibility ... risk ... occasion ... attempt ... serendipity ... inspiration.
Who or what, if anything, do we think 'controls' chance?
How do we respond to chance in our daily lives?

May we embrace the 'chance' encounters we have today,
and allow them to accompany us to fulness of life.
